FCPX Preview Screen Goes Blank / Black

Lately (for 2 months now), I've been having issue with my FCPX. Specifically, the Preview Screen was blank / black, even when playing on parts with video / jpg media. Tried googling and do the all the steps people recommend: delete all generated files, clear caches, restart computer, run the program on another clean account, unistall and reinstall FCPX. All to no avail. Still the preview screen was stubbornly blank. Then one day, I needed to access another mac, so I unplugged one of my monitors to work on that mac. Then I found out FCPX on my mac works fine. The Preview Screen is back!! So apparently, for me, it's an issue of monitor. I don't know what caused it, but the solution is this: 1. unplug other monitors (use only 1 monitor -- I use an external monitor for this) 2. restart FCPX (no need to restart computer for me) 3. after the preview screen works fine, plug back other monitors (if you need to work with multiple monitors) Writing it down now before I forget....

Guides to Virtual Choir

Note: Panduan ...

Meiji Black Chocolate Puzzle

I recently bought a Meiji Black Chocolate Puzzle, thinking it would be fun to play with kids, especially while waiting for our food in the restaurant. I mean, this is better than screen time, right? Little did I know.. this puzzle is actually the harder version of the milk chocolate puzzle (which I didn't know exist). Now, THAT puzzle has lots of solutions and would be fun for kids. But this one? THIS puzzle has ONE solution (according to the YouTube video I watched, anyway). After several hours of frustrating "why is this not working" moments, I caved in and watched the YouTube solution. For my own reference (and sanity), here's the solution. For the next time I need to clean the puzzle up quickly. Hope this helps whoever is currently stuck and ready to give up...

Movie Time

THE movie of the year is without a doubt Avengers: Endgame. I mean, it's the final chapter of phase 1 of MCU (or 1 away from the final chapter, which as everyone knows, is the best part with all the fightings and all the happenings). So we decided to go and watch it (of course!). Since the movie is about 3 hours long, I wanted to buy the premiere version. Better seats. But much to my surprise, the premiere seats were all sold out. I mean, for a 10.45 AM show. I mean, come on people, don't you have to go to work? And not only that, but it was sold out for the next few days until the end of the month. For all of the showings in Premiere. I mean, I knew this movie would be popular, but this popular? Uhm.. yeah, I didn't expect it. Whacha lookin' at? Anyway, we finally decided to just watch it on the regular screen. Waiting for the theater to open Oh boy, it's a loooooongggga movie. Thankfully I knew about it beforehand, so I limit the kids...

Adventure Park - Lenmarc Mall, Surabaya, Indonesia

Starting from the week before Easter until after Ramadhan, Lenmarc opens up an Adventure Park. This is basically a pop up play area for kids. They have trampolines, water roller (kinda like an inflatable cylinder where kids can climb to the inside and roll the cylinder around), a pin screen area, and a tubing area (down toward a pool of ball), and a separate ball pool so the kids don't get hit by the tuber, I guess. Since the price is decent (IDR 30K for 45 minutes + 15K for parent), we decided to bring the kids there to burn off their energy (school's out since the 6th graders are having their finals). The highlight of the park was definitely the tubing area. It's so much fun and even the littlest one was excited about it. Waiting for turns... Moments before plunging into the ball pool See that smile? Wheeee! Tubing is fun! The ball pool is also fun. Come jump into the pool! Trampoline Jump! This is fun! Pin screen...

Do Re Mi...

After about 9 years of not translating musical notation to doremi notation, I realized that Indonesia is VERY resistant to the idea of learning to sing some other way. While I think it's redundant and totally unnecessary, other people don't see it that way. And being in the minority, I have to give in. It means... back to doremi for me. >_< What bothers me most though, is the fact that I have tons of good songs that I would love to sing with my choir here, but it's not possible without translating it to doremi first. And since I hate manual dots and slashes, I decided to create a doremi font. It's not perfect, but for those who are stuck with this fate, I hope it helps. Download the DoReMi font here Directions : 1234567 = works as usual Shift + 1234567 = with dot on top qwertyu = 1234567 with dot below i = 1 with double dot on top asdfghj = 1234567 with forward slash (up half step) zxcvbnm = 1234567 with back slash (down half step)

Fast or Slow?

Me: Hi, I'd like to buy IDR 100,000 worth of gas, please. Attendant: Sure. Would you like it fast or slow? Me: Hah? What's the difference? Attendant: Well, we have this technology that makes it faster to fill up gas. But some people complained that they don't get their money's worth, because it takes less time. So we can slow it down if you like. Me: But the volume is the same? Attendant: Yup. No difference whatsoever. Just fast or slow. Me: Fast, please. I cannot believe this is an issue.

Raising Kids

Raising a kid is an act of juggling between what you're told, what you believe to be true, and making your parents happy. I think.

Smoke vs Smoke

In Indonesia, this is what happens when you go to a Korean BBQ place. Me : Hi, I'd like a seat in the non-smoking area, please. Waitress : Sorry, we have no non-smoking area. But don't worry, it's all air-conditioned. Me : You don't have the non-smoking area? Why? Waitress : Well, the BBQ cooking generates quite a smoke already. So it won't look worse with additional smoke from the cigarettes. Me : ... You've gotta be kidding me! What kind of logic is that?

Myth or ?

Now that my daughter hits 10 month mark, she starts to move more actively around. She doesn't quite walk yet, but she tries. Her feet don't move one in front of the other, but her whole body make a "jump" to compensate. As such, she fell and hit her head. A part of her forehead was swollen. And when we called our family, the single advice that everyone gave us was: Rub oil on it, and then rub a knife on it. This was totally the way we were brought up. I remember seeing an adult rubbing the swollen part of a child's head with knife. It works too! But it makes me wonder... Why does it work? Do we still have to do that nowadays?

Two Sides

When I was in Canada, the norm there is for every house to have an electric stove. Only the rich can afford gas stove. The salesmen pitch their sales saying "Using gas stove, your food will taste better. Cook it the way it's meant to be -- with fire." Now I am in Indonesia, where gas stove is the norm. Electric stove is expensive. And of course, the sales people are saying "Using electric stove is safer. No risk of fire." There is always another side to a point of view. ^_^

Thought of the Day

This came across my mind today: Places across the ocean are perfect, as long as you are at least an ocean away. I realized that when I was in Canada, I thought Indonesia was perfect. And now that I am in Indonesia, Canada seems better in every aspect. Weird.

Being Friendly and Nicknames

A co-op student started her term in a big company. It was her first work experience, and she didn't quite like how she felt in the first few days. After a lifetime surrounded with friends, she felt the need to go out of her way to be friendly with all her new seniors. First of all, she learnt all their names. Then she started to communicate face-to-face, rather than via emails. Then, feeling decidedly more comfortable, she started giving nicknames to her colleagues and call/email them by that nicknames. She felt they could be on a friendlier term when she did this. Her colleagues, not knowing why she suddenly called them by shortened/different names, felt that she was being rude. It didn't help that one of the nickname she gave was actually the name the colleague was bullied with as a child (in another culture). So it seemed as if she was mocking them. It is sufficient to say that her relationship with her colleagues did not improve, and they only talked on a need-to ba...

Jam Kehidupan - Remembering Abud

This song has been playing in my head ever since I heard the news about a good friend's passing due to an accident. It was unexpected. He was still very young. In our teenage years, we sang this song together. Jam kehidupan diputar sekali Dan tak seorang pun tau kapan 'kan berhenti Mungkin hari ini, mungkin esok, mungkin nanti Cepat atau lambat, tak seorang tau Bila waktunya  Jam kehidupan diputar sekali Dan tak seorang pun tau kapan 'kan berhenti Sadarilah, kawan, hidup ini tak terulang Sekarang waktunya yang kau miliki S'karang waktunya  Milikilah kasih Yesus Yang menjadikan hidupmu berarti Bekerjalah di ladang-Nya Agar hidup tiada percuma My friend had definitely done that in his life. He was a figure we love and respect, mostly because he loved God with all his heart. I regret being so far away that I couldn't even attend his funeral. And while I know God's plan is the best and beyond my own understanding, let me grieve a while longer for my ...

Tax System Explained in Plain English

I got this story from Darwin. It's definitely an eye opener...  Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100… If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this… The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing. The fifth would pay $1. The sixth would pay $3. The seventh would pay $7. The eighth would pay $12. The ninth would pay $18. The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59. So, that’s what they decided to do.. The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve ball. "Since you are all such good customers," he said, "I’m going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20. Drinks for the ten men would now cost just $80." The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes. So the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men? The pa...

My New Journal

When going to the Mall the other day with my friend, I mentioned in the passing that I am looking for a new journal, just to write my thoughts down. There was none that I liked at the time, so I didn't buy any. Since then, Chris and I have been going to stores looking for the "perfect journal" (or at least a "good enough journal"), but everything was either too expensive or just not good enough for the purpose I have in mind. And today.. voila! My friend called me and gave me a brand new cute journal. Wowww... It's so cute, too! This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks, Jen!

On Lying..

Lifehacker shows up with an article titled " How to Be an Effective Liar ". One comment cracks me up.. When I was a kid, I learned pretty quickly that the best way to lie is to tell the truth, but embellish it so much that it won't be believed.   "Did you have a party while your mother and I were gone?"   "Oh yeah! You missed out. It started out fairly small, but by the end, E! News showed up and the Goodyear blimp did a couple of flyovers. Luckily, Martha Stewart got the ankle tracker off, so she came out and helped us clean up afterwards. I'll make sure we take pictures next time." Hahaha.. ^_^
